Winter on the OBX from KEES Vacations and beach houses built by SAGA

Maybe Bing Crosby wasn’t really dreaming about snow when he sang about a “White” Christmas?

With the holidays approaching, it’s that time of year to start thinking about plans again. Whether it’s getting together with the family or getting away for a few days, heading to the Outer Banks for your next holiday trip is never a bad idea. It could very well be your next holiday tradition.

Consider this.

Services are available to decorate your rental home for you

Family traditions and the beach go together. Something is refreshing about a roaring fire alongside the lull of the ocean. Add in some garland and holiday decorations and a few loud nephews, and you’ll feel like you’re back home. Here on the OBX we have services that do the work for you. Arrive at a decorated home without having to travel with everything from back home. Check out Renee Landry Events or Amaranth and Artifact.

Services are available to prepare entire meals for you

In-home chef services are in demand on the Outer Banks this season. We’re big fans of Dawn’s Kitchen, Pok’s Art, Modern Coastal Cookery, and Outer Banks Boil Company, among others. Additionally, many restaurants like Red Sky Cafe offer scrumptious holiday packages. If you’re not interested in outside help, that’s completely understandable. Most OBX kitchens are equipped for large service meals. Larger homes often have more than one dishwasher which makes post-meal clean up a breeze. Best of all, grocery stores are still open this time of year, so if you forget something, you’re never truly far away

Book a weekend instead of a full week’s stay

Smart property management companies on the Outer Banks like KEES Vacations have adopted flexible calendars to allow partial week stays. If you want to take the whole family down for a holiday weekend, or simply sneak down for a weekend, flexible calendars are right for you. No need to take a full week off the calendar and pay the extra rent. Save your money for seafood or another trip later!

Prime locations at half the price

As we’ve seen throughout the pandemic, the Outer Banks’ proximity to many big cities makes it one of the easiest stops for families across the east coast. With beautiful newly built homes, ample lot sizes, and more than enough beach for everyone, the Outer Banks has become a household name and family favorite for many folks around the country.

The off-season is special to many OBX regulars who understand you can get homes for much cheaper than summer rates. In some cases, more than half the price of peak rates. It doesn’t hurt to look at prices right now for the holidays, you may be surprised. That big home you’ve always wanted to stay at is within reach. You’ll be the hero, and if you’re lucky, you might get out of doing some dishes.

Great temperatures

According to Google, the average Outer Banks daytime temperature in December is 57 degrees Fahrenheit. A light jacket and some walking shoes are all you need for a memorable adventure in the sunshine. If you have pets, many towns have relaxed leash laws. Don’t underestimate those brisk beach walks in the wintertime. Brutal wintry weather and snow are rare here.

Small town vibes

Holidays in small beach towns give you those hallmark movie feelings you can’t find anywhere else. There are a few events around town, we recommend watching obxguide.com or outerbanks.org event calendar for our favorite sources for new things popping up. A favorite event of ours is always to go to the Elizabethan Gardens for the winter lights. The Hatteras Island Christmas Parade is also worthy of a mention. The Town of Duck boardwalk event is always fun, too. And wait till you see Whalehead or the Currituck Lighthouse all dressed up. No matter what the town, there’s holiday charm and something for everyone.

Ready to pack up and head down for the holidays? We don’t blame you. Check out KEES Vacations, and we’ll make this holiday an experience you won’t forget.Â
