Get out on the water for an adventure and go paddle boarding or kayaking at one of the many soundside locations, or in the Nags Head Cove canals just behind Jockey’s Ridge! There are several local businesses that rent out paddleboards and kayaks by the hour, day, or week if you don’t own any.
North Carolina Aquarium
Beat the heat one day at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. They have plenty of enjoyable exhibits and educational programs for the whole family. You can purchase tickets for admission online which includes access to daily free programs such as animal feedings, educational films, and more!
Cool off at one of the many scrumptious ice cream shops in the area! Check out John’s Drive In in Kitty Hawk for a one-of-a-kind spot known for their signature fruit shakes and malts or head over to Kill Devil Custard in Kill Devil Hills for the flavor of the day and their famous beach fries.
Outer Banks Sunsets
Take in a gorgeous Outer Banks sunset one evening along Bay Drive in Kill Devil Hills! Walk or bike along the street for some light evening exercise with a breathtaking backdrop.
Take a climbing tour of one of the lighthouses of the Outer Banks. You can head up to Corolla to visit the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, the Bodie Island Lighthouse in Nags Head, or the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They are all open seasonally for climbing, hours and ticket pricing varies so check online before you go.
