OBX Veterans Week commences with Manteo’s First Friday event, Friday November 1st from 6-8PM in Historic Downtown Manteo along the waterfront. First Friday welcomes visitors and locals to enjoy a variety of food, artisans, shopping, magic and live music. The First Friday concert will take place at Dare County Arts Council, featuring The Wilder Brothers. The concert is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
On Sunday, November 3rd from 4-5PM, Dare County will be holding a Candle Lighting Ceremony to Honor Veterans. The ceremony will take place at Saint Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head. Join the GEM Center, a community-based nonprofit organization that offers adult day services supporting adults with memory loss and physical as well as mental disabilities, in honoring our veterans at the Candle Lighting Ceremony.
The fun continues on Thursday, November 7th with the Veterans Week Concert featuring Keith Anderson and Ray Scott. Join the two of country music’s best storytellers as they perform at Secret Island Tavern in Kill Devil Hills. Doors open at 7:00PM and the concert will begin at 7:30PM. General admission tickets are available for $15 and $10 for veterans as well as active-duty military and their family members. Purchase of tickets are available on Dare County Arts Council and Secret Island Tavern. All proceeds from the Veteran Week Concert will fun Dare County Arts Council’s Veteran programs. Honoring Veterans Through Music,   November 8
Veterans are invited to join Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church on Friday, November 8th from 1:30-3PM for the Honoring Veterans Through Music event. Hear an inspirational story of how a retired Navy Captain transitioned her Naval career into services to others with music.
Veterans Writing Workshop, November 9-10
The 2019 Veterans Writing Workshop will be held on November 9-10th at the ECU Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese, NC. This is a free, two-day workshop that includes complimentary breakfast and lunch for Veterans, active-duty military and their families. Beginner and experienced writers are invited to participate in the workshop. This years Veterans Writing Workshop will focus on poetry and be led by Veterans, Ron Capps and Colin Halloran. TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon & Southern Fried Half Marathon/ Southern Six, November 9-10
Join the Outer Banks for a weekend full of events on November 9-10th for the TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon & Southern Fried Half Marathon/ Southern Six. Veterans receive a free entry into the Southern Six Category of the Outer Banks Marathon. Veterans Buyer and Seller Real Estate Workshop, November 11
The Free Veterans Buyer and Seller Real Estate Workshop will be held on Monday, November 11th from 9:30-11:30AM. Join Broker and Realtor, Al Friedman, to learn more about buying and/or selling your home with your VA benefits. Jolly Roger Restaurant will be hosting a Free Breakfast and Dinner for Veterans event on Monday, November 11th. Join Jolly Roger for two great specials in honor of Veterans including, free breakfast to Veterans on the first Tuesday of every month and on Veterans Day, Monday November 11th, a complimentary dinner entree up to $18.99, to thank all veterans for their service. The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island will be having Free Admission for all Veterans, active-duty military and their spouses and dependents on Veterans Day, November 11th. Enjoy free admission to the aquarium from 9AM-5PM.
