- April 16 – Easter Eggstravaganza: If you’re looking for something to do with kids on Easter weekend, the Easter Eggstravaganza at The Elizabethan Gardens is a popular choice. Enjoy the gorgeous spring blooms in the gardens, also located in the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, while your little ones enjoy the fun. You can even bring your dog (make sure to get them a ticket too)!

- April 15-16 – Fly Into Spring Kite Festival: For a fun, outdoor event with the family, look to the skies over Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Kitty Hawk Kites will be flying their large kites, some as large as 30 to 100 feet wide, over the dunes. You can enjoy the sight of kites in the air of all different shapes and sizes, including fun animal shapes. There will also be a small Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday.

- April 23-24 – Flying Pirate Half Marathon Weekend: For runners (and walkers), the Flying Pirate Half Marathon is a great opportunity to have a great time and get some mileage. Don your best pirate costume (don’t forget to enter the costume contest) and join your fellow shipmates on a run through the beautiful, scenic landscape of coastal NC. In addition to the Half Marathon, there is also a 5k and a Fun Run.

- April 29 – Old Crow Medicine Show Chatham Rabbits: If you like folk music, this show at Roanoke Island Festival Park – a casual, outdoor venue with a beautiful view of the sound – is the perfect way to spend your Friday night. Both bands have ties to NC’s folk music scene. Make sure to bring a low-back beach chair or a blanket so you can relax on the lawn before the show.
